Hey guys, new here. Well I think I joined up sometime in the middle of 07, but I haven't had much of a look around. I'm a 20 year old waif-like creature wondering what he's going to do with his life :p Had a hard time in school and left prematurely, now I'm starting to find my wings again I suppose. Nice to see some of you studying high literature when you're only 21 I browse used bookstores and hoard poetry and history, but I don't really know where to start, I've kinda just shoved it all in a drawer for the "one day" when I'll feel energetic enough to dive in. I'm a rather plain individual, actually.
I joined in the midst of reading Silence in HS, which was fantastic. I'm sorry to say I haven't actually finished the trilogy. I picked it up at a booknook with only the film as my reference and thought it was wonderful, especially the dialogues. They're masterpieces, I get a sensation from reading them I've had from only a few books, and none of those were written after 1900. Anyway. I'm a short way through Red Dragon now, so I'll do it all in sequence this time. They're the only books I've managed to continue reading after more than a few pages, and they've geared up some long-suppressed creative urge I thought I'd forgotten. So, thank you Mr Harris!
Don't know what else to say really. I used to write a lot as a child, and I can do it if I'm forced to, but it's not very good. Well, it's.... difficult, and so it ends up sounding difficult. I don't have many other hobbies. Unless you count spending hours browsing online encyclopedias, ritual insomnia and avoiding culpability for ones' existence as hobbies.
You guys seem to be a comfortable and genteel bunch, so I'll try to get acquainted and not make an arse of myself too often. And read the damn books so I have something to say :p
edit: also I was wondering if there was a way to have my username changed, because I wasn't feeling particularly creative when I signed up. You now all know my first name Should I PM a moderator? I could just create a new account I suppose.

Hey there Michael. Welcome to the Studiolo. You can make a new account or you can harass Trega a little. It's one of life's most exquisite joys.

Welcome to the Studiolo, Michael. You made an excellent choice starting to post-what took you so long?!…It’s pretty cozy and easygoing, especially this time of year. Have you tried a mug of steaming Nestlé's Quik for your insomnia as Robert Langdon would? Myself, I favor good sleeping weather. Your hobbies would prove valuable-of that I am certain. As C.S Lewis said, “we read to know we are not alone”. I once knew a “Zach” from the Hannibal library, and he would be about your age now, also unsure of his writing, and an avid fan of Phillip Dick. Hopefully you would relinquish the castaway status in favor of some good company here. Yes, the dialogues in SOTL are very dramatic and rhythmical. They stir me as well. I am glad that they have provoked your hunger for writing as such. What are your other favorite books? Any favorite art and/or music? I hope you enjoy your stay.
